TCU is a private university located in Fort Worth, Texas, with a strong academic tradition and a commitment to research excellence. With over 150 years of history and more than 12,000 students, the university has long valued the preservation and accessibility of scholarly output through its digital repository.
For the past 10 years, TCU operated an in-house instance of DSpace 5.9, housing a rich and growing collection of theses, dissertations, archival material, and multimedia content. However, with the evolving demands of repository management, particularly the need for ongoing technical updates, performance scalability, and modern features, they decided it was time for a change.
A massive migration effort
TCU partnered with Atmire to undertake a full migration of their repository, a project that involved more than 54,254 items and nearly 10 Terabytes (TB) of data. This included a significant volume of audio and video files, which had previously been more difficult to manage and deliver efficiently.
A future-ready repository
By moving to Open Repository, TCU ensures long-term sustainability and scalability of their digital collections. They’re no longer constrained by internal infrastructure or maintenance overhead, and can focus on what matters most: making knowledge openly available to the world.
Whether you're considering a migration, looking to modernize your repository, or exploring new features like media streaming. TCU’s journey shows what’s possible when institutions partner with the right solution.
