This year, Atmire will contribute to the conference programme with several sessions focused on DSpace innovation, automation, repository scalability, and multilingual user experiences.
Automated metadata and full-text population
As part of the Developer Track, Bram Luyten from Atmire will present together with Cilian Joy from the University of Galway on automated approaches to retrieving full text from emerging open APIs.
Session: Developer Track: DSpace 2 — Automated Metadata and Full Text Population
Title: Fill The Gap – Automated retrieval of full text from emerging open APIs
Speakers: Bram Luyten, Atmire, and Cilian Joy, University of Galway
Time: Wednesday, 10 June 2026, 11:00–11:50
Location: Parallel Session 2
This session will explore how repositories can benefit from automation to improve metadata completeness and full-text availability. The presentation will highlight new opportunities created by emerging open APIs and show how these can help repository teams reduce manual work while increasing the value and completeness of their collections.
Creating gigantic repositories with DSpace Seed
Atmire will also host a workshop introducing DSpace Seed, a new Python library designed to support the creation of very large repositories.
Session: Workshop: DSpace Seed – Creating gigantic repositories with a new Python library
Title: DSpace Seed – Creating gigantic repositories with a new Python library
Speaker: Bram Luyten, Atmire
Time: Monday, 08/June/2026: 15:00 - 16:00
Location: Parallel Session 2
The workshop will introduce participants to practical approaches for creating and populating large-scale DSpace repositories. DSpace Seed aims to make it easier to generate substantial repository environments, supporting testing, demonstrations, development, and performance evaluation at scale.
Improving non-English DSpace user interfaces
Atmire will also present on common challenges in non-English DSpace user interfaces, with a focus on helping repository teams avoid pitfalls in multilingual and localized environments.
Session: Presentations: DSpace
Title: Non-English DSpace user interfaces: Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
Speakers: Ignace Deroost, Art Lowel, and Lieven Droogmans
Time: Tuesday, 9 June 2026, 17:00–17:50
Location: Parallel Session 2
This presentation will address recurring issues that arise when implementing or maintaining DSpace interfaces in languages other than English. Drawing on Atmire’s experience with international DSpace implementations, the session will offer practical guidance for improving usability, consistency, and maintainability across multilingual repository environments.
