Scholarly Commons at University of Pennsylvania migrates to Atmire

19/09/2023

A team at the University of Pennsylvania Libraries has successfully completed the migration of Scholarly Commons, the University’s open access institutional repository. This migration involved transitioning from BePress Digital Commons to an Atmire repository.

The migration resulted in the establishment of a cutting-edge repository leveraging DSpace 7. Atmire not only facilitated the seamless transfer of data but also ensures the ongoing maintenance and support required to keep the repository running smoothly.

Scholarly Commons serves as a robust platform for a diverse range of scholarly materials, encompassing a wide range of content, including articles, books, datasets, electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), reports, and working papers.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with the Penn Libraries team to migrate their BePress repository to a custom DSpace 7 platform. This was a major and collaborative project in which the entire Penn Libraries team diligently organized themselves to make quick and resolute decisions so that all aspects of the upgrade were addressed effectively. Atmire is thrilled that this project resulted in a very modern, user-friendly repository where the client will not only be able to own and manage their own data, but also easily showcase all of their content
